$1 million donated to boy in Mall of America incident
MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9) - More than $1 million has been donated to the fundraising campaign for the five-year-old boy who police say was thrown from the third level of the Mall of America.
A family representative announced Friday the boy is now "alert and conscious" and is no longer in critical condition after he spent days sedated in intensive care.
The boy's GoFundMe campaign launched the day after the tragic incident. In 13 days, more than 28,000 people contributed to help the fundraising effort reach the $1 million mark.
"Your love and generosity overwhelms and means so much to us!" read a family statement in part. "We have no idea where we would be without you - God and your prayers have sustained us."
The suspect, 24-year-old Emmanuel Aranda, is charged with first-degree attempted premeditated murder.
