2 injured in carjacking, shooting in Columbia Heights, Minn.

A carjacking and shooting in Columbia Heights, Minnesota sent two people to the hospital early Monday morning. 

At 5:36 a.m., officers were dispatched to 42nd Avenue and Fillmore Street Northeast after 17-year-old boy from Maple Grove called 911 to report he had been shot and his vehicle had been stolen. 

Officers arrived and located the caller and a second victim, a 16-year-old boy from Brooklyn Park. Both had gunshot wounds and were transported to Hennepin County Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. 

Police are still looking for the stolen vehicle and the suspects. The stolen vehicle is a 2016 white Jeep Patriot with Minnesota license plate AWF385. The suspects are described as a man and a woman. 

As police investigate what led to the carjacking, neighbors wonder ‘why here?’

“This is a nice neighborhood. This is ridiculous, unbelievable,” said Wendy Lofy, who heard the gunshots.
