DASHCAM: Cheeseburger-while-driving crash in West St. Paul
WEST ST. PAUL, Minn. (KMSP) - We’ve all grabbed a snack at a gas station or a meal at a drive-thru window and eaten in our car.
Most people don't think twice about eating and driving, but earlier this month a cheeseburger was the cause of a crash in West St. Paul.
Dashcam video caught a 73-year-old woman, who was paying more attention to her cheeseburger than the road, collide with another car at Robert Street and Emerson Avenue, police said. She didn’t see the police car behind her, or the car in front of her until it was too late.
She was cited for a minor moving traffic violation.
“Although this is a minor thing many of us do, it does result in some pretty significant damage,” the West St. Paul Police Department said.
Police are reminding drivers of the dangers of distracted driving. Texting, scrolling through Facebook and Twitter, and eating can wait--put down the food, the phone and drive.
