Governor proclaims Taylor Swift Day in Minnesota
ST. PAUL, Minn. (KMSP) - Gov. Mark Dayton has proclaimed Friday, Aug. 31, 2018 as as “Taylor Swift Day” in Minnesota in honor of the pop star's back-to-back weekend performances at U.S. Bank Stadium.
The Minneapolis shows are two of the 56 concerts on Swift’s 2018 ‘Reputation’ world tour. Reputation is Swift’s fifth concert tour. She last performed in Minnesota during her "1989 World Tour" in 2015.
Gov. Dayton has made a habit of celebrity proclamation days, declaring Prince Day, Beyonce and Jay Z Day and Bob Dylan Day.
Gov. Dayton's Taylor Swift Day proclamation reads as follows:
WHEREAS: Taylor Swift was born on December 13, 1989, in Reading, Pennsylvania, and is one of the world's most influential, top-earning artists in the music and entertainment industry; and
WHEREAS: Taylor Swift started her professional career at the age of fourteen upon moving to Nashville in order to write and perform country music, releasing her self-titled album Taylor Swift' in 2006 at sixteen years old. A true musician, Taylor writes or co-writes all her music and lyrics, and plays several instruments including the guitar, banjo, and piano; and
WHEREAS: Taylor Swift has produced six studio albums, and is one of the world's best-selling artists, selling over 40 million albums and 130 million singles to-date; and
WHEREAS: Taylor Swift has received numerous awards for her music and songwriting, including ten Grammy Awards, 19 American Music Awards, 23 Billboard Music Awards, 20 Academy of Country Music and Country Music Association Awards, and one Emmy; and
WHEREAS: Taylor Swift has accumulated many accolades, including two appearances as one of Time Magazine's 100 Most Influential People; Time Magazine's 2017 Persons of the Year for her role in
he #Me Too movement; USA Today's Musician of the Year; Rolling Stone's Greatest Artists of AllTime and 100 Greatest Songwriters of All-Time; Billboard Music Awards' Woman of the Year twice; and Forbes' 100 Most Powerful Women and Celebrity 100; and
WHEREAS: Taylor Swift is the first artist to ever have four albums sell over a million copies in one week in the United States, is one of only two women to win the Grammy's highest honor of Album of the Year twice for 'Fearless' and '1989', is the youngest Album of the Year winner for 'Fearless' at 20 years old, and has succeeded in reaching the top of the charts of several musical genres; and
WHEREAS: Through her personal and honest music, Taylor Swift has energized and inspired not only Minnesotans, but people all over the world, and is a positive influence on her fans through her example of truthfulness, grace, extensive philanthropy, and strength of character; and
WHEREAS: Tens of thousands of Minnesotans will gather at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis on Friday, August 31, and Saturday, September 1, 2018, to see Taylor Swift perform; and
NOW, THEREFORE, I, MARK DAYTON, Governor of Minnesota, do hereby proclaim Friday, August 31st, 2018, as: in the State of Minnesota.
TAYLOR SWIFT DAY
