Man charged after escaping from Hennepin County Jail last month
MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9) - A Hopkins, Minnesota man is now facing charges after he escaped from the Hennepin Adult Detention Center in Minneapolis last month.
Michael Simon, 57, was charged Tuesday with one felony count of escaping from custody.
On Nov. 28 at approximately 7 a.m., a witness reportedly saw Simon break a window on the seventh floor of the Hennepin County Public Safety Facility and climb on the skyway roof. The witness notified security and deputies searched the area with the help of local law enforcement.
Simon was located several hours later during a traffic stop in Little Canada.
Simon was being held in the jail in connection with Sept. 15 burglary in Edina. He pleaded guilty to third-degree burglary charges in October and was sentenced on Wednesday to 30 months in prison.
