Keith Ellison elected Minnesota Attorney General

Democrat Congressman Keith Ellison won the race for Minnesota Attorney General, capturing the victory after facing abuse allegations.

DFL Party Chairman Ken Martin released the following statement:

“Congratulations to Attorney General-elect Keith Ellison on his election night victory. Keith’s commitment to justice and equity throughout this hard fought race were unflagging. His commitment to making Minnesota a fairer, more just place to live and raise families has been consistent throughout his lifetime of service as a defense attorney, in the Minnesota House and in Congress, where he has worked to make life better for countless people in our state and the nation. Now he’s coming back home to uphold the values of integrity and service upon which the attorney general’s depends. Students, seniors and consumers can rest easy knowing Keith Ellison will truly lead the Office of Attorney General as the “People’s Lawyer."

DFL Candidate: Keith Ellison. Member of the U.S. House of Representatives representing 5th District. First elected to the House in 2006, Ellison has easily won his races for CD-5 over the years. Ellison also serves as deputy chairman of the Democratic National Committee. Ellison jumped into the attorney general race after the endorsement process when incumbent Attorney General Lori Swanson decided to run for governor. Ellison has been facing abuse allegations from an ex-girlfriend during his campaign.

Republican Candidate: Doug Wardlow. A former Republican member of the Minnesota House of Representatives, representing District 38B from 2011 to 2013. Wardlow works as a litigation attorney.
