Congressman Tom Emmer re-elected to U.S. House 6th District

Republican Congressman Tom Emmer has been re-elected to the U.S. House for the 6th District.

Emmer released the following statement following his victory against Ian Todd:

“Thank you to every Minnesotan who participated in our great democracy by casting their vote. I am humbled and honored to have the support of Minnesota’s Sixth Congressional District for a third term in Washington.

“I want to thank every staff member and volunteer for their dedication and hard work, putting in thousands of hours for our team and believing in our cause. Guided by our Midwest values, I look forward to building on past successes, seizing new opportunities and taking on new challenges as we continue to build a better future for Minnesota and this nation.”

LAST ELECTION: Tom Emmer won his race in 2016 by a 65.5 percent to 34.3 percent margin. Safe GOP seat. Republicans have held this seat since 2003, but before that, there were three Republicans and three Democrats during a 36-year span.

Republican Candidate: Rep. Tom Emmer (Incumbent). Member of the U.S. House of Representatives, representing the 6th Congressional District. Emmer won his seat in 2014. This is a very safe seat for Emmer and Republicans. Was 19B MN House rep from 2004 to 2010. Ran for Governor in 2010 and lost to Gov. Dayton by just 9,000 out of two million votes (43.6% to 43.2%).

DFL Candidate: Ian Todd. Was a member of the Air Force. From Arkansas, moved to Minnesota after his time in the Air Force. Calls himself a progressive DFL candidate. A DFLer hasn’t held this seat since 2003. 15 years of GOP control. Kennedy, Bachmann, Emmer.
