Body found in Colorado River, search for missing Minnesota man in Texas called off
AUSTIN, Texas (KMSP) - Authorities in Austin, Texas have called off the search for a 25-year-old Minnesota who went missing over the weekend after a body was found in the Colorado River Monday afternoon.
Friends of Christopher White told FOX 7 they rented a home near the Colorado River in Travis County for the weekend. The group attended the Austin City Limits Music Festival on Friday and went swimming in the pool behind their rental home early Saturday morning. They realized White was missing when they woke up the next morning at 9:30 a.m.
According to the Travis County Sheriff's Office, White's friends left for a while, came back and noticed he was still missing, so they called police.
White's friends said he was intoxicated and indicated he might want to go down to the dock. He was wearing blue swim trunks the last time they saw him and likely nothing else.
Authorities discovered the body of a man in his 20s in Lake Austin, which is on the Colorado River, on Monday afternoon after a citizen called 911.
The sheriff's office has not confirmed whether the body is White. The medical examiner will determine the identity and cause of death.
"At this point in time, based on the location where the body was found and the fact that we have this missing person, we are working as if this could be the person that we have missing," sheriff's office spokesperson Kristen Dark said at a news conference on Monday.
White's parents and girlfriend flew to Texas Sunday to join volunteers and law enforcement in searching for him. They are aware a body has been found, Dark said.
