Minnesota synchronized swimming team wins gold at Gay Games in Paris
(KMSP) - A Minnesota synchronized swimming team is taking home the gold at the Gay Games in Paris, France.
The team, called The Subversive Sirens, is made up of five women, who are "committed to black liberation, equity in swimming/aquatic arts, body positivity in athleticism, and queer visibility," according to their Facebook Page.
The team made Minnesota proud by performing to a medley of Prince's greatest hits.
"This gold is for all our fans and supporters, our communities in MN and beyond facing discrimination and barriers to being truly free," read a statement on the team's Facebook page.
The Gay Games is held once every four years and is described as the "world's largest sporting, cultural and festive event open to all!" This year, 10,000 people are expected to participate from more than 80 countries.
