Three rescued after canoes capsize near Ely, Minn.

Border Patrol agents rescued three canoeists who became stranded after their canoes capsized near Ely, Minn., according to officials with U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

On Saturday, three people were canoeing on Snowbank Lake when their canoes capsized. They managed to get to a small island where they called 911 for help. Due to the weather, hypothermia was a concern.

Agents found the stranded canoeists, who later received treatment from St. Louis County Search and Rescue and Ely Emergency Medical Services.

Crews later recovered the canoeists' gear and their two canoes.
