Turkey holding up traffic gets MnDOT escort to cross I-94
MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9) - A turkey holding up traffic on Interstate 94 in Minneapolis Wednesday morning got a special escort from the Minnesota Department of Transportation to help it cross the road to safety.
Around 7:45 a.m., MnDOT reported a turkey was taking up the right lane of southbound I-94 at 7th, causing traffic to swerve and divert to avoid it. By 8 a.m., the turkey had made its way to the Hennepin/Lyndale avenues exit on I-94.
The turkey was stranded in median. At one point, he tried to escape and ran into traffic.
“[He was] nearly taken out, reversed, panicked, forgot he knew how to fly, remembered he knew how to fly, tried, failed, then ran back to the median,” FOX 9 traffic reporter Kendall Mark said.
Eventually, a MnDOT truck followed the turkey, guiding it across the interstate. It is believed to have made safely to the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden.
