2019 now snowiest February on record
(FOX 9) - It's official: February 2019 is now the snowiest February on record for the Twin Cities.
As of noon Wednesday, the current storm has dropped 7.8 inches of snow at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, bringing the monthly snowfall total to 30.4 inches and breaking the previous record of 26.5 inches recorded in 1962. February 2019 is also now tied with November 1983 as the 10th snowiest calendar month on record for the metro.
The last time, the metro saw this much snow in one month was during the "dome buster" in December 2010.
Right now the season snow total of 48.2 inches is just six inches away from the season average of 54 inches. The most snowfall in one season happened during the 1983 to 1984 season with 98.6 inches.
The snow is not done yet, however. There are eight days left in February and snow is still falling as of Wednesday afternoon. A final snow total for Wednesday will be released at 6 p.m.
A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for most of the metro until 6 p.m. and until 9 p.m. for the north metro and central Minnesota. The warning area could see 6-10 inches by the end of the day.
