1 dead in shooting at Minnetonka storage facility
MINNETONKA, Minn. (KMSP) - Police confirm one man is dead and one man is in custody following a shooting at a storage facility in Minnetonka, Minnesota. The incident started with a dispute around 11 a.m. at the facility in the area of Hedberg Drive and Greenbrier Road.
While en route to the report of a dispute, police were notified shots were fired. Officers arrived on the scene and found a man dead of a gunshot wound. The man has been identified as 58-year-old Thomas Luetzow of Minnetonka.
The crime scene was located at the back of the storage facility, near an RV. Multiple police agencies, SWAT and air support were called to the scene before the suspect surrendered peacefully. Minnetonka police identified the suspect as 65-year-old James Lacount.
“It was a peaceful surrender. No force needed," Minnetonka Police Chief Scott Boerboom said. "It just took us a while to surround and secure the area.”
Police said the shooting was not random.
Minnetonka Police were assisted by the Minnesota State Patrol, Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office, Plymouth Police, St. Louis Park Police, Maple Grove Police, Edina Police and Hopkins Police.
