1 injured after shooting outside Myth Live nightclub in Maplewood
MAPLEWOOD, Minn. (FOX 9) - Maplewood police say an 18-year-old St. Paul man was seriously injured in a shooting Friday night outside Myth Live nightclub.
Investigators say the teen was shot in the neck and was sent to an area hospital. Police have not released the victim’s name, and have not released details about the shooter at this time.
“I can’t even put words to it. It makes me sick,” a local mom said. “It could have been her, it could have been anyone, I thought she was in a safe place enjoying music.”
The mother said her daughter was inside the venue during the rap show, but left before the shooting.
Myth Live’s website says the concert was an all-ages performance by artist Lil’ Baby.
“It made me feel very scared and nervous that she was in an atmosphere where it happened,” she said
Maplewood Police swarmed the music venue around 11 p.m. when investigators say a fight in a neighboring furniture store parking lot ended in a shooting.
Police say first responders were already at the venue responding to a separate overdose call before the shooting happened.
In 2006, FOX 9 first reported on another shooting at the same venue where a man was shot in the stomach and lived. Reporters then learned the police were called to Myth 168 times in less than a year after the venue first opened.
Investigators say in all, they were on-scene at Myth four other times before the shooting Friday for disorderly conduct and medical calls. Police say security was on the property for the 1,800 people at the show.
