MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9) - An 11-year-old girl drowned while swimming in Lake Nokomis, according to the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office.
The sheriff's office said an 11-year-old was swimming about 30 feet from shore around 7:30 p.m. Saturday when she went missing.
Fire crews responded to the lake to search for the girl. When crews arrived at the scene, they formed a human chain with beachgoers and began to search the water.
The initial search was unsuccessful, but the Hennepin County Sheriff's Water Rescue Patrol says they recovered the girl's body around 9 p.m.
