4 officers injured during assault at correctional facility in Faribault, Minn.

Four corrections officers were injured Monday in an assault at the Minnesota Correctional Facility in Faribault, Minnesota. As a result, the facility is currently under lockdown.

According to the Minnesota Department of Corrections, around 11:30 a.m., a corrections officer was punched in the face by an offender in the dining hall. 

Other corrections officers immediately responded, and three of the responding officers were also injured. The four injured officers were taken to the hospital for further evaluation.

The offender was immediately removed from general population and put in restrictive housing.

The investigation is ongoing.

According to Department of Corrections records, this year there have been 37 staff assault cases, some of which listed multiple staff victims. In all, 50 staff members have been listed as victims. This compares to last year which saw 47 staff assault cases, with 59 staff members listed as victims.

Earlier this summer, an inmate beat a corrections officer to death at the Stillwater prison.
