MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) - Police confirmed 6 people were injured in two overnight shootings in downtown Minneapolis. Monday afternoon, Minneapolis Police Chief Janee Harteau said the initial altercation between rival gangs was live-streamed by the suspects.
The first shooting happened at 1:13 a.m. Monday outside the MPD’s First Precinct on 4th Street N. The second shooting was reported at 1:29 a.m. at Hennepin Avenue and 4th Street S.
Shooting near First Precinct
Officers at the precinct heard gunshots, went outside and found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center by ambulance and is being treated for wounds to his leg and hand. Another man brought himself to HCMC and is being treated for a gunshot wound to his leg.
Police said neither victim is cooperating with the investigation. Police believe the shooting is gang related.
Officers at the scene of the shooting recovered a handgun in a nearby parking lot. Investigators are looking at footage from cameras in the area to try to determine who else is involved. They will also be canvassing in the area in the coming days talking with business owners.
4th and Hennepin shootings
Officers on foot and on bike found 3 men and one boy suffering from gunshot wounds. The victims were taken to Hennepin County Medical Center by ambulance. Three of the victims are being treated for non-life-threatening wounds. The fourth victim was shot in the chest and is currently in stable condition at HCMC.
A suspect was arrested by officers after a short foot chase, and a handgun was recovered.
'This city belongs to all of us'
Minneapolis Mayor Hodges said gun violence is unacceptable anywhere in the city, and she is particularly fed up with illegal gun possession.
"Downtown belongs to all of us," Hodges said.
