Andover's 'ice carousel' brings community together

Dan Anderson brings his neighborhood together with an "ice carousel" he makes himself. FOX 9's Babs Santos has the latest.

On Saturday in Andover, Dan Anderson brought his neighborhood together, by building an ice carousel on the lake ice behind his home.

"It’s just a blast putting together an event like this. People come out, we serve hot chocolate and cookies," Anderson said. "It’s become a tradition now, like, ‘oh Dan, when are you going to have the ice carousel?’"

How to build an ice carousal

What we know:

Anderson and company construct an ice carousel by cutting a near perfect circle out of 12 inches of ice.

Then, they stick a boat motor in the water, to make the floating ice chunk begin to spin.

"There’s a lot of planning that goes on throughout the year to get this day going," Jeremy Smith said. "Dan’s amazing creation… this is just a big brainchild of his… this is the primary winter activity in our book. Maybe just behind Christmas."

"It’s a lot of stuff, there’s 1,000 little things that have to happen," Dan finished.
