These are the best cities for working parents, study says

Researchers surveyed ‘parental burnout’ across the globe and found American parents among most exhausted

The study was put together by the university UCLouvain in Belgium and thousands of parents in 42 countries participated.

Choosing the right city can make all the difference for working parents.

A new study by CoworkingCafe ranked U.S. cities with at least 200,000 residents that had data for metrics based on career prospects, childcare availability and quality of life.

The data points were then analyzed to determine the highest and lowest possible scores for each metric.

Here’s a look at the top U.S. cities for working parents, according to the study.

Washington DC ranks No. 1 for working parents

According to the findings, Washington D.C. topped the ranking with high scores in both the work and health categories, with 25% of its workforce being remote and registering 350 pediatricians per 100,000 children.

Seattle, Washington was ranked second nationally due to its high share of remote workers at 27% of the total workforce, on top of 80% of the jobs being office-related.

Claiming the third spot was Arlington, Virginia due to its strong work environment, and Scottsdale, Arizona came in fourth.

Overall, the West stood out with eight locations in the top 20, while the South came close with seven.

Plano, Texas led in the affordable childcare category with only 10% of median household income spent on childcare. Meanwhile, Miami, Florida ranked first in terms of accessible educational facilities.

This study follows other recent studies which highlight the financial strain put on many parents.

Another recent study found that child care costs are now outpacing inflation, with the typical American family barely affording both a house and child care in most of the country’s largest cities.
