FRIDLEY, Minn. (KMSP) - A 10-year-old fifth grade boy struck by an SUV in Fridley was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to Fridley Police Capt. Ryan George.
George says the crash happened at 3:16 p.m. on 61st Avenue NE just east of 7th Street NE, which is near Fridley Middle School. Police say the boy is a fifth grader at Fridley Middle School.
The boy was crossing the street when an eastbound SUV hit him. Police don't know if he was in the crosswalk or not.
Emergency crews took the boy to Hennepin County Medical Center. The family has since created a GoFundMe page for the boy.
The driver, a man, is cooperating with authorities. Police do not believe he was impaired. The driver does not have any connection to Fridley Public Schools.
Police are investigating if speed or other traffic violations were a factor in the crash.
Fridley Public Schools is providing staff support for students who saw the crash.
The crash is still under investigation.
