EAGAN, Minn. (KMSP) - As the Vikings look to strengthen their roster this weekend at the NFL Draft in Arlington, Texas, all predictions come with a big disclaimer—everything is subject to change.
Minnesota comes into Thursday with its first-round pick at No. 30 after filling some urgent needs through free agency, and will look to find some big-time talent through its eight picks. Insiders, however, caution those watching to put too much stock in mock drafts and other analysis when last-minute revelations about players and unexpected moves by teams have the potential to change everything at a moment's notice.
"That's what makes the draft to me so much fun: it's unpredictable," Vikings General Manager Rick Spielman said Wednesday.
Early predictions say Minnesota could go for a top offensive lineman with their first pick, or even trade their first-round selection and wait until the second round to make their choice.
At any rate, Vikings players that have been through the experience themselves had some advice for whomever the team selects this weekend.
"Obviously you work your entire life for the NFL draft," tight end Kyle Rudolph said. "And up until that point, it's the best day of your life. But it's just the beginning of your NFL career--it's the start, not the goal."
