Minneapolis fire crews battled a three-alarm house fire on the University of Minnesota campus Saturday afternoon.

Minneapolis assistant fire chief Melanie Rucker said the fire started in a dumpster outside a three-story residential house on the 1000 block of University Avenue Southeast. As the fire grew, it went up the trash shoot and into the building, spreading into the home's attic space.

Crews worked to extinguish the blaze outside the home before safely moving into the building to tackle the remaining flames in the attic area. The roof at the rear of the house partially collapsed. The fire did not spread to neighboring homes.

Everyone inside was able to leave the building safely, and no injuries were reported. Rucker said approximately 31 people lived in the building.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
