A cyclist has died after a crash with a school bus in St. Paul, according to St. Paul police spokesman Steve Linders.

The crash happened around 2:10 p.m. at the intersection of Snelling and Summit avenues. Emergency responders pronounced the cyclist dead at the scene.

Authorities are investigating how the crash happened.

There were 30 middle school students on the bus at the time of the crash. They were not injured. A bus later picked up the students at Macalester College to complete the route.

Officials interviewed the bus driver. Investigators do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.

A spokesman for the bus company, First Student, says as part of their standard procedure after all crashes, the driver will be removed from service, pending the outcome of the investigation.

The cyclist will be identified after police notify the family.

This incident marks the first fatal bike crash in St. Paul this year. There have been five crashes between vehicles and bikes in the city so far this year.
