DAIRYLAND, Wis. (KMSP) - A dam break on the Tamarack River is causing flash flooding along the Minnesota-Wisconsin border.
At 3:30 p.m., the National Weather Service reported Radigan Flowage Dam west of Dairyland, Wisconsin had broken and the Tamarack and St. Croix rivers are flooding.
A Flash Flood Warning has been issued for Pine County in Minnesota and Douglas and Burnett counties in Wisconsin until 6:30 p.m.
Travel is not advised through most of Douglas County. Wisconsin Highway 35 is closed at the Black River. U.S. Highway 53 southbound lanes are being diverted near Solon Springs.
The National Weather Service said water is now over all bridges downstream from the dam in southwestern Douglas County.
In Pine County, Minnesota Highway 48 is closed at the St. Croix River. The following roads in the Markville and Cloverton area are underwater: Rutabaga Road east of Tamarack River Road, Duxbury Road, Grace Lake Road and Markville Road east of Tamarack River Road, as well as Willow Hay Road and Shadow Oak Road in Kerrick Township.
Residents who live in the affected area, especially along streams and creeks, are advised to move to higher ground and take immediate precautions to protect themselves and their property. Do not drive on flooded roads.
One person has already died in the flooding in northern Wisconsin. The 75-year-old man's body was found 60 feet from his pickup, which had been swept off the road into a ditch in Ashland County.
