Danfoss closing Eden Prairie plant, laying off 110 workers

Danish engineering company Danfoss says it is closing its plant in Eden Prairie, laying off 110 workers in the process, while shifting some operations to its other Twin Cities plant.

Danfoss closing Eden Prairie plant

The backstory:

Danfoss manufactures a number of products, including appliances, motors, pumps, and heating and cooling parts. The Eden Prairie plant focused on Danfoss' hydraulic products.

The Eden Prairie plant had been in operation for nearly 60 years.

What's next:

Danfoss says it will begin layoffs in waves starting in late March and continuing through December 2025.

The plant is expected to close by the end of the year.

The work that was done at the Eden Prairie location will be moved to other Danfoss plants, including its other Twin Cities campus in Plymouth, which they are also expanding.

Some employees from the Eden Prairie plant will be relocated to the Plymouth location.

Reaction to Danfoss closure

What they're saying:

In a statement, a City of Eden Prairie spokesperson said the city learned of the closure this week.

"Representatives from Danfoss met with City leaders this week to relay the news about the company’s plans to close its Eden Prairie campus by the end of 2025. No decisions have been made about the future of its Eden Prairie property located along Technology Drive. Unfortunately, this closure will result in the loss of approximately 100 jobs.

"Danfoss (formerly Eaton) has been an integral part of the Eden Prairie community since 1965. The company played a significant role in the local economy by creating jobs, supporting community initiatives and contributing to the vibrancy of Eden Prairie.

"The presence of Danfoss will be missed and the City appreciates the positive impact its leadership and employees have made over the years."

In a statement, a Danfoss spokesperson said the move was to improve "operational efficiency and fostering greater collaboration."

"We recognize that this decision impacts many of our valued employees, and we are deeply grateful for their hard work and contributions," the statement goes on to say. "We are committed to supporting our teams throughout this transition with the utmost care and respect…. We understand the strong connections many of our colleagues have to the Eden Prairie location and community. As we transition, we remain committed to honoring that legacy while building a more collaborative, innovative future for Danfoss at our Minneapolis campus."
