Zebra mussels
(KMSP) - The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has confirmed zebra mussels in three more lakes in the Twin Cities metro.
The DNR said zebra mussels were found in Bald Eagle Lake and Lake Johanna in Ramsey County and Lake Isabelle in Dakota County. Zebra mussels are an invasive species in Minnesota lakes.
A juvenile zebra mussel was found on a settlement sampler in Bald Eagle Lake, which are surfaces placed in the water that people can check regularly for attached zebra mussels.
An adult zebra mussel was found near the public access on Lake Johanna during an early detection survey.
A trained detector found three zebras mussels attached to the fishing pier on Lake Isabelle during the University of Minnesota’s starry stonewort “Starry Trek” search event on Saturday.
The DNR will conduct follow-up surveys of all three lakes to determine whether zebra mussels are widespread in the lakes and assess treatment options.
Boaters and anglers are reminded to clean watercraft and trailers of aquatic plants and invasive species, drain all water and dispose of unwanted bait in the trash.
