Drowning at Plymouth apartment pool where teen died 1 year ago

His identity will be released by the Hennepin County medical examiner's office.

The 16-year-old boy died almost exactly a year ago after being pulled unresponsive from the same pool. Last April, a spokesperson with the apartment complex said there are clear signs indicating lifeguards are not on duty and a tragedy like this had never happened there before.

Benedict Richardson, a Liberian immigrant who was about to enroll at Wayzata High School, was pronounced dead at North Memorial Medical Center. Deputies responded to report of a possible drowning around 7 p.m. that night. First responders began CPR at the scene but were unable to revive him. His father said his son knew how to swim.
