Fans, music stars honor Prince at tribute concert
ST. PAUL, Minn. (KMSP) - Prince fans celebrated his remarkable legacy with some of the biggest names in music at the Official Prince Tribute Concert at Xcel Energy Center.
Fans came from around the world, decked out in purple attire, beads, and third-eye sunglasses for a purple party for one of their dearly beloved.
“Sad, but excited at the same time. It’s really sad, but its great we get a chance to come together and experience this,” said one fan.
Prince was not only on the minds of fans, but in their hearts as well.
Dave Fearn flew all the way England for the Prince tribute concert.
“I'm a big Prince fan. I have been for many years and it was a chance to say goodbye to a big part of my life," said Fearn.
Prince's sister, Tyka Nelson, says family members wanted to hold the concert at U.S. Bank Stadium because Prince was in negotiations to play the first concert there.
But she's prepared for an emotional rollercoaster as superstars, like Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan, Judith Hill, Nicole Scherzinger, and The Time to play in honor him at the Xcel Energy Center.
“I've been up and down,” said Nelson. “I'll cry one day and throw a fit and then the next day I'm happy. As long as I don't think that he's gone I'll be fine, so tonight he will not be gone he will be here.”
But you don't have to be family to celebrate Prince's purple reign one last time.
