First Day Hikes in MN happening across 10 state parks on Jan. 1
ST. PAUL, Minn. (FOX 9) - If a new year’s resolution is to be more active in 2025, then nearly a dozen Minnesota state parks will offer a chance to hike among those doing the same on Jan. 1.
First Day Hikes
What we know: A nationwide effort organized by America’s State Parks encourages people to get outdoors, while enjoying exercise and nature.
On Wednesday, Jan. 1, Minnesota’s First Day Hikes will be held at the following parks:
- Blue Mounds
- Fort Snelling
- Jay Cooke
- Lake Bemidji
- Maplewood
- Minneopa
- Nerstrand-Big Woods
- Sibley
- Whitewater
- Wild River
What to know
Learn more: While the event has no participation fee, some of the hikes require advance registration.
Due to winter weather conditions, several of the hikes will be held on snowshoes. You can bring your own, but some will also be available to borrow for free as well.
While there is no participation fee for the First Day Hikes, a vehicle permit of $7 per day is required to enter Minnesota state parks and recreation areas – they can be bought in advance.
