Fue Lee wins DFL nomination in District 59A
MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) - In the early 1990’s Fue Lee, his siblings, and parents immigrated to Minnesota from Thailand. Born in a Thai refugee camp – no one could have guessed Lee would eventually go on to win a DFL nomination just over 20 years later.
Lee’s upset of DFL incumbent Joe Mullery in District 59A was one of the big surprises of primary night. But in many ways Lee has been preparing for this moment for some time. A lifelong resident of north Minneapolis, Lee has been civically active much of his life. Now the favorite in the November general election, he hopes his unique story and voice will help him better represent District 59A.
“It’s really important to just have a different perspective and a new voice that’s willing to listen to everyone,” said Lee.
At 24 years old, he’s one of the youngest political figures in Minnesota. Lee says if elected - his focus will be education and public safety.
“For me, I grew up here and I know the issues impacting our lives,” said Lee.
