Gas leak plugged in south Minneapolis after neighborhood evacuation

The Minneapolis Fire Department evacuated homes and buildings on Diamond Lake Road between Nicollet Avenue and Lyndale Avenue before plugging a natural gas leak around 5:15 p.m. Wednesday.

The incident began when a gas main was struck at Diamond Lake and Wentworth Avenue just before 4:00 p.m.

Streets were been blocked off for a two-mile radius, and crews hope to restore traffic by 6:00 p.m..
