Gov. Walz declares state of emergency, National Guard to help rescue stranded motorists

ST. PAUL, Minn. (FOX 9) - Gov. Tim Walz declared a state of emergency Thursday night after storm conditions created dangerous conditions for travelers in Minnesota.  

The Governor ordered the Minnesota National Guard to help local authorities with stranded motorists across the state.

According to a release from the Governor’s office, strong winds have stranded motorists in Freeborn, Marshall, Mower and Steele Counties.

The National Guard will aid in search and rescue operations ongoing in the area.

The National Guard armories in Owatonna and Albert Lea have also been opened and will be used as shelters.
