Highway 7 Minnetonka crash guilty plea

A man who was responsible for a crash in March along Highway 7 in Minnetonka while speeding and driving with a revoked license has plead guilty for his actions.

A man involved in a crash that left a Hopkins teen student seriously injured has pleaded guilty to his involvement in the incident.

What we know: Mohamed Aydarus Salad was charged with criminal vehicular operation nearly five months after a crash occurred on March 5 along Highway 7 in Minnetonka.

Charges filed in crash that injured Hopkins teen

Charges have been filed in connection to a violent crash that put Hopkins teenager Lauren Olson in the hospital for weeks.

Minnesota State Patrol troopers say Salad was behind the wheel of a Chevy Equinox that slammed into Hopkins student Lauren Olson, seriously injuring her.

Speeding, revoked license

What they’re saying: Troopers say Salad was driving at 96 miles per hour seconds before the collision. The speed limit on that section of Highway 7 is 55 mph.

Troopers also say Salad's driving privileges were already revoked, and he shouldn't have been on the road at the time of the crash.

Guilty plea

Dig deeper: As part of a plea agreement filed in Hennepin County, Salad has pleaded guilty to criminal vehicular operation, waiving his right to a trial.

As part of the agreement, he will have 18 months stayed over a three-year sentence.

Salad will serve 364 days in a department of corrections center, but after 180 days will be eligible for electronic home monitoring.

A sentencing date is currently scheduled for Jan. 29, 2025.
