A man is in custody after he told police he killed his wife Friday night in Blaine, Minnesota.

According to officials, at about 9:45 p.m., officers responded to the 2700 block of 95th Avenue Northeast after a man reported he killed his wife. Police took the 46-year-old man into custody.

Inside the home, police found a woman deceased. She has been identified as 46-year-old Mary Jo Jansen.

Police are investigating the incident and say there is no threat to the public.

For nine years, Tim Magnuson and his family have lived next door to the home where the crime took place.

“We were good enough friends as neighbors that the gate that we shared had a door so we could go between yards,” said Magnuson.

During that time, they built quite a friendship with the family inside.

“We hung out with them a lot at their pool, they’d come over for barbeques,” he said. “We’d help each other out if one of us was out of town, picking up the mail, that kind of thing.”

The kind of things that made it that much more difficult to hear what they heard from police on Friday night.

“You never think it’s going to hit that close to home you know with people that you know, and you care about and so it’s just heartbreaking,” said Magnuson.

He says his heart now goes out to the couple’s children during this tragic time.

“We have loved their family,” he said. “We love all the kids, you know. We want to be here for them, but we love ‘em. We love ‘em like they were our own kids.”
