MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9) - A portion of southbound lanes along I-35W in northeast Minneapolis was closed Monday evening after a tanker rollover coated the highway with a liquid.
The crash around 7:30 p.m. along I-35W near Industrial Boulevard diverted southbound traffic for several hours. Traffic camera video showed a tanker swerving around another vehicle, and possibly some debris in the roadway, before overturning.
Minnesota State Patrol says the injuries in the crash are non-life-threatening. The biggest problem resulting from the crash was the 1,500 gallons of tack, a substance used for asphalt repairs, that the tanker was carrying. The tack splashed across the roadway and the median during the rollover.
Road crews used a sandy material to absorb some of the tack while sweeper machines tried to clear the asphalt.
UPDATE: Tuesday, Minnesota State Patrol corrected the spill, saying the tanker was only carrying 1,500 gallons of tack with about 500 to 600 gallons ended up on the highway.
