ST. PAUL, Minn. (FOX 9) - Police are investigating a deadly attack along I-94 in St. Paul on Thursday.
What do we know?
St. Paul police say they were called to the scene around 12:30 p.m. by Minnesota State Patrol, who had responded to a report of an assault inside a vehicle near Prior Avenue.
According to police, the suspect in the attack called 911 to report he had attacked an elderly man inside a vehicle along the highway. The victim appears to have been behind the wheel of the car when the suspect, the passenger, attacked him. It's not clear if the car was moving at the time of the attack or already pulled off to the side of the highway.
When the police arrived, the victim was unconscious and not breathing. He was rushed to Regions Hospital where he was ultimately pronounced dead.
The circumstances leading up to the attack are unclear. The investigation is ongoing.
Who is the victim?
Police are awaiting official identification of the victim, but say he appears to be an elderly man who is of retirement age or older.
Who is the suspect?
In an update on Thursday, police said the suspect is a 32-year-old man who is now being held on suspicion of murder. Police say the victim knew the suspect, but their exact relationship is unclear.
