Minneapolis Park police are launching an investigation after what appeared to be a false 911 call led to an officer pointing a gun at a group of teens.

Around 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, officers responded to Minnehaha Regional Park for a report of four teens holding knives and assaulting the caller's boyfriend. The caller also said one of the alleged suspects had a gun in his backpack.

Officers found the teens matching the caller's description and one of the officers pointed a gun at them.

The teens, who police say are between 13 and 16 years old, were handcuffed and detained. Officers did not find any weapons. Police later released three of the teens. Authorities took one teen to the Juvenile Supervision Center after they learned he was a runaway. None of the teens was injured.

The officers’ body cameras captured the encounter on video. The Park Police Chief is requesting an independent investigation into the officer's response to determine if proper policies were followed.

Police are also investigating the validity of the original 911 call.

A Facebook video taken shortly after teens were handcuffed was shared thousands of times on social media, calling for answers from police.
