MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) - The case of Danny Heinrich, the Annandale, Minnesota man labeled a "person of interest" in the 1989 disappearance of Jacob Wetterling, returned to U.S. District Court in Minneapolis on Wednesday. Lawyers argued over evidence at the hearing, which wrapped up by noon, but no decisions were made.
One revelation from the hearing is that officers wore hidden recording devices while talking to Heinrich during a search of his home in their child pornography investigation. Heinrich has not been charged in Wetterling's disappearance, but he is accused of receiving and possessing child pornography. The 53-year-old is slated to stand trial on July 11 in Minneapolis.
Heinrich pleaded not guilty to 25 child pornography charges in February after investigators searched his home last summer for evidence connected to Wetterling, but instead discovered 19 three-inch binders of child porn, a computer with child porn, and apparently, nothing pertaining to the boy who went missing in St. Joseph.
