MN weather: Light snow later, blowing snow possible

Light snow will slide out of the Dakotas on Saturday and slowly move into Minnesota, starting from the west and moving east. FOX 9 meteorologist Jared Piepenburg has the full forecast.

A quick moving clipper will slide across the state today, bringing light snow. The light snow moves in later today and lasts through the night and into Saturday. A few areas of northern Minnesota may see 3–5 inches of snow while most will pick up around 1–3 inches.

Weekend Forecast:

What we know:

Light snow will slide out of the Dakotas today and slowly move into Minnesota, starting from the west and moving east.

Light snow accumulations will be possible before sundown. Light snow will continue on Saturday night and into the first half of Sunday before this clipper pushes east.

Winds will pick up quite a bit on Sunday, leading to some tougher travel, especially in open areas where the wind may blow and drift the lighter snow we pick up.

The metro looks to pick up around 1–2 inches of snow, but not too far to the north, areas will likely see 2–4 inches and some isolated areas potentially picking up a touch more.

The strong winds out of the northwest on Sunday will draw in some pretty bitter air, leading to falling temperatures on Sunday.

Temperatures start in the mid-20s Sunday morning and will likely fall into the lower to mid-teens by later in the afternoon. Wind chills could dip below zero before the sun sets on Sunday.
