DULUTH, Minn. (KMSP) - A historic lighthouse is looking for a new owner. So, if you’ve ever wanted to own a piece of lakefront property in Duluth, this could be your chance.
The Coast Guard has made the Duluth Harbor South Breakwater Lighthouse available for new ownership as it looks to cut back on maintenance costs.
However, not just anyone can put in an offer. Federal agencies, state and local agencies, nonprofits and community development organizations are among the entities that are getting first dibs to apply for ownership.
If the 44-foot light station is not transferred to a public body or nonprofit, then it will be sold.
The federal government will still have ownership of the beacon and the fog horn.
