ROYALTON, Minn. (KMSP) - A Miley Cyrus "super fan" with a potentially deadly disease is beating the odds for a second time. Family members say Alexis Martinez is as tough as the title to her favorite Miley Cyrus song, "Wrecking Ball".
They said her feisty personality is responsible for her becoming "cancer free" after being diagnosed with leukemia, twice.
"I'm so happy," Martinez said. "I'm probably the happiest girl in the world. Aside from a little pain from today. Pain is good. It means I'm alive."
Fox 9 first met Martinez two years ago after she met her idol at the Xcel Energy Center, the result of a social media campaign called "Luv for Lulu" -- a show of support after she was diagnosed with leukemia twice.
Since then, she went to prom with a bald head because of chemotherapy and graduated from Royalton High School, but she got strep a couple of weeks later which led to a blood infection and organ failure. She was in a coma for over a month and actually died before doctors brought her back.
Now, after 110 weeks of chemo, the cancer attacking her white blood cells is gone. In fact, doctors removed the port in her chest and took her final bone marrow test, which she'll get the results of in about week.
"You have to play a mind game," Martinez said. "The doctors say its going to take this long. Guess what? I'm going to do it in this long. I'm going to prove everyone wrong. That's how I got through it."
Now Lulu can concentrate on taking selfies instead of battling a deadly disease.
"I'm not supposed to be here," Martinez said. "I'm a walking miracle. And I'm so grateful to be here and I wouldn't trade a day in the world. Its a beautiful place."
Martinez plans to start cosmetology school in August. She says after spending two years with no hair, she wants to help other people become as beautiful on the outside as they are in the inside.
