MADISON, Wis. (FOX 9) - Friends and family held a service to remember the life of Rubi Patricia Vergara, who was killed in the Abundant Life Christian School shooting.

What they're saying: "She never wanted to be in the spotlight, and she would probably be horrified to see that there were this many people in the church for her," said family friend Dawn Morris. "Rubi was a grateful person, and I am forever grateful for the time we had with her. We will never know why this tragedy happened here on Earth, but we will forever know that Jesus is still on that throne."
Rubi is being remembered as an avid reader of Christian fantasy novels, an art lover, and from a young age, a gifted musician who played worship songs in a family band.
A burial service was held for her at Roselawn Memorial Park. Remus says Rubi’s funeral services and final resting place were donated to the family.
Law enforcement identified the school shooter as 15-year-old Natalie Rupnow, who they say appears to have committed suicide.

A family spokesperson says right now the family’s coping mechanism is to lean into God.
"We hold no bitterness or unforgiveness towards 15-year-old Natalie Rupnow or her family," Rubi’s uncle Andy Remus said. "They lost a daughter too. Somehow this previous child of God lost her way."
