Maplewood police hand out impounded bikes to kids

Officers from the Maplewood Police Department spent their afternoon Thursday handing out around 50 bicycles to kids at an area elementary school, part of a larger initiative to repurpose impounded bicycles and give them to children around the area.

The city's fire department and Regions Hospital also helped to get helmets for every child receiving a bike, as well as ensuring they fit properly, according to a release.

Thursday's event took place at Edgerton Elementary School, with similar ones planned at both John Glen Middle School and Maplewood Middle School next week.
