Maplewood police hand out impounded bikes to kids
MAPLEWOOD, Minn. (KMSP) - Officers from the Maplewood Police Department spent their afternoon Thursday handing out around 50 bicycles to kids at an area elementary school, part of a larger initiative to repurpose impounded bicycles and give them to children around the area.
The city's fire department and Regions Hospital also helped to get helmets for every child receiving a bike, as well as ensuring they fit properly, according to a release.
Thursday's event took place at Edgerton Elementary School, with similar ones planned at both John Glen Middle School and Maplewood Middle School next week.
