The Hennepin County medical examiner's office released the identity of a 16-year-old who was fatally shot in the head during a drive-by shooting at 27th Avenue N. and Lyndale Avenue N. on Thursday afternoon.

Four people were inside a car, including a baby. Tyrone D. Rice Jr. was the only one hit, and died after being taken in critical condition to North Memorial Hospital.

“It’s been a busy 24 hours,” a tired Inspector Michael Friestleben said after gathering evidence at the scene last week. “We ended our night that way, and then the shooting today.” Friestleben said violence had been down on the north side, but only recently picked up.

Minneapolis police are investigating. No arrests have been made, but police did arrest Gerald Cepeda in connection to the shooting death of Jessica St. Marie, who died after being shot at a bus shelter on East Lake Street and Park Avenue South on Oct. 13.
