2 children hurt in shootings in the Twin Cities over the New Years

As the calendar turned to 2024, police in both Minneapolis and St. Paul were investigating separate shootings that left children injured overnight.

Just before midnight, St. Paul police responded to a shooting at a home on Sherburne Avenue west of St. Albans Street North. At the home, police found a 10-year-old boy who had been shot in the stomach by shots fired from outside the home.

The boy was rushed to Regions Hospital, where he is currently listed in critical but stable condition. Police say the child is expected to survive his injuries.

Police say they don't believe the shooting was a random incident.

Minutes later, across the river, Minneapolis police were also called out for a child who had been injured by gunfire.

Minneapolis officers say they responded just minutes after midnight on Jan. 1 to the shooting at a home on Bryant Avenue North near North 23rd Avenue, which is in Minneapolis' Hawthorne neighborhood.

Investigators say the 11-year-old victim was in her bedroom when a bullet shot from outside injured her. She was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center for treatment. Thankfully, she is expected to survive her injuries, police say.

Minneapolis police are investigating the shooting. Anyone with information on who may have fired the shots is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or submit an anonymous tip online.
