MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9) - Police say a man was seriously injured in a stabbing late Monday night in downtown Minneapolis.

What we know: The incident occurred just before midnight near a bus shelter at Nicollet Avenue and South Fifth Street.
At the scene, police discovered a man, described as being in his 30s, with potentially life-threatening stab wounds. Officers said the man was bleeding, and they provided first aid until EMS transported him to Hennepin Healthcare Hospital.
Police say the preliminary information suggests there was an altercation in the street near the bus stop, which escalated into a stabbing.

What we know: Police used surveillance cameras to track the suspect’s movements, leading to an arrest about 30 minutes later near Colfax Avenue South and Lake Street, according to the press release.
The suspect, a 58-year-old man, was taken to the hospital for an injury that happened prior to his arrest, police explained, and he was later booked into the Hennepin County Jail.
What we don’t know: It’s unclear how the suspect was injured or the extent of his injuries. Police did not share the current condition of the victim.
Authorities are still working to determine what led up to the stabbing. Police did not say whether the two men knew each other, or if a weapon had been recovered.
The incident remains under investigation.
