Minneapolis teen dies after being shot outside his home

A Minneapolis teen died Monday evening after being shot outside his home.

What we know: Minneapolis police were called around 7:15 p.m. for the shooting along East 25th Street near 11th Avenue South in the Phillips neighborhood.

Officers say it appears the 17-year-old victim was with a group of people outside his home when shots were fired.

The boy was shot multiple times and ran back inside his home to get to safety before collapsing. However, despite efforts by officers, the boy was pronounced dead inside his home.

What we don't know: The exact circumstances leading up to shots being fired are unclear. It's also not clear if the teen was targeted in the shooting or an innocent bystander.

Police have not yet said if the gunman was part of the teen's group, and no arrests have been made.

What are they saying: In a statement, Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara spoke out against the violence. His statement reads as follows:

"Another act of gun violence and another juvenile shot dead. This senseless act of gun violence has destroyed another young life and left another family with a life of grief.  We are asking anyone in the community with information to help our investigators by providing any information they have about this incident.  We all must work together to end this level of violence in our neighborhoods."
