Minnesota driver escapes vehicle fire in North Dakota, no injuries reported

A vehicle is considered a total loss after it caught fire on I-94 Friday night near Mandan, North Dakota. The driver from Chanhassen, Minnesota, was not injured in the fire.

A 2008 Nissan driven by Trevor Susla, 21, was traveling eastbound on Interstate 94 near mile marker 136, about 15 miles west of Mandan. According to highway patrol, Susla observed flames coming from the area of his cellular phone charger in the center console of his vehicle. He pulled over on the shoulder of Interstate 94 and exited the vehicle.

New Salem Fire Department responded and put out the vehicle fire. The vehicle burned completely. Eastbound Interstate 94 was briefly closed for approximately 10 minutes before being re-opened to normal traffic flow. No injuries resulted from this incident. This incident remains under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
