Minnesota snowmobilers hoping for more snow soon, for second year in a row

There are thousands of snowmobiles in the greater Twin Cities metro area, but so far this winter, there has not been enough snow to ride them around the cities.

"Groups of guys are going to Michigan this week, Manitoba, northern Minnesota, west to Yellowstone," Minnesota United Snowmobilers Association former president Scott Wakefield told FOX 9 on Monday.

For now, all Twin Cities riders can do is hope to get on Mother Nature’s good side soon.

"I’m positive. It’s going to happen. We have a lot of winter left. February is coming. March is coming," Wakefield said.

Others say their patience is wearing thin in an industry where sales have fallen significantly.

Snowmobile sales have nosedived this winter, with many dealerships in the Twin Cities metro struggling to unload their inventory - ultimately blaming the sales slump on limited snowfall this season.

"There are economics to all of it, so, it’s really vitally important to have the local snow so we can groom our trails," Wakefield finished.
