ST. PAUL, Minn. (FOX 9) - The Minnesota Wild honored former Twins player Joe Mauer at Tuesday’s game against the Philadelphia Flyers, giving a nod to the baseball legend.
Players wore custom Joe Mauer No. 7 jerseys during pre-game warmups. Mauer autographed the jerseys, which were auctioned off to benefit Crescent Cove and the Minnesota Wild Foundation. The auction will close March 1.
Mauer also performed the ceremonial puck drop before the game and announced “Let's Play Hockey” with family.
The player announced his retirement on Nov. 15 after a 15-year career with the Minnesota Twins, which he finished with a .306 batting average and 2,123 hits in 1,858 games.
Mauer and his wife, Maddie, are Crescent Cove Ambassadors. The organization offers care and support to children and young adults with a shortened life expectancy, and their families.
